SNAP CLICK PHOTOGRAPHERS

A no judgement place for womxn in photography to shoot, share, encourage and collaborate.

UPCOMING WORKSHOPS!

What it is…

A space for Ontario female photographers to meet up in some awesome, beautiful and sometimes unconventional locations and for lack of a better word …. engage in creative time. We gather at a set date/time/location with our gear in hand, an outfit or two and enjoy experimenting taking images of each other and others. It is a great place to try new things or a technique you’ve been wanting to try. It is also a place for COMMUNITY. As a professional photographer, it is easily to get bogged down in client work and not have time to shoot for fun. It can also be isolating to work from home and solo, so it’s also nice to have some virtual and in person sounding board options. We are not here to make major bank off of these meetups, at least not currently. Dana from Three Crowns Branding who takes the organizing of booking the events under her belt just does not have the bandwidth or enough coffee to take this to the next level with workshops and heavily planned and structured styled events…just yet. So right now, this is fun, light and needed for women like us. And the bonus, you have images of YOU to use if you need them. You can also use the images taken and edited by you and use them.

*Please note that Snap Click Photographers meetups are an inclusive, open and accepting space.

How it happened…

Pretty organically actually! A few Ontario photographers were introduced, started messaging on Instagram and decided to meet up at Millworks Creative and invite some others. None of us had met in person. We showed up, cameras in hand and had a great morning. We laughed, we ate donuts, drank coffee and answered some questions and we all left feeling the same way…. ENERGIZED to do it again. We came up with a name, opened a social media account and had several awesome meetups after at Mint Room Studios, Van Wagner Beach, Lochland Botanicals and Studio Pastel. All of these events have created the coolest experiences and created bonds and a group to bounce off ideas to in our private chat group.

Who it might not be right for…

I think as important and inclusive as we want this group to be, we also want to recognize and want to make sure that everyone is on par in terms of their business goals when coming to a meetup. That is why we ask that those attending be currently working in their photography business with a goal of making their living as a full time/part time photographer. It’s totally OK if you have a day job but we want to make sure that when we talk shop that you can gain from that and participate. That means that we would prefer if you have a registered photography business in Ontario and are currently doing paid shoots only, not portfolio building stage. This meetup is not a beginners group per say, so if you JUST bought a camera and don’t know how to use it or are looking for instruction, we would strongly recommend taking a more formal course and open a business before attending.

What is the difference between a workshop and a meetup…

A “styled shoot” or workshop is where there is a staged location set up with hired models for the purpose of shooting to build a portfolio. A meetup is social, we still shoot and share but it is lower cost, more fluid and much more social, shooting each other (other photographers).

I love this group, founding it and being a part of it because it is something I desperately wished I had when I started my business. There were workshops and courses but nothing that was geared toward creative time and social with a no pressure and low cost commitment. Now, I can’t imagine not having the friendships I have made in this group. Even when I am super loaded with work, Snap Click meetups are always something I have time to organize. Mainly because it’s good for my soul.
